How long will it take?
This will depend on various factors which include:
- The type of accident suffered - road traffic, accident at work or slip/trip etc.
- The type of injuries you have suffered - where the injuries are more serious - the compensation may
need to be calculated on future projections
But typical examples:
- Road traffic accident with relatively minor whiplash should take between 6-9 months
- Slip/trip accident with relatively moderate injuries should take 9-12 months
The Criminal injuries Compensation scheme should take around 12 months
These are guidelines ONLY, your solicitor should be able to give you an estimate based upon your individual case.
It is common practice to ask the negligent party for a sum of money known as an "interim payment" to pay for specific things such as physiotherapy or vehicle damage to help you get back on your feet as soon as possible rather than wait until the end of the claim.
