If you have had to work from home due to Covid, you can make a working from home tax claim. See if you are eligible and how to claim.
What is a working from home tax claim?
At the outset of the COVID pandemic in early 2020, many employees were asked to work from home. Due to additional expenses involved in working from home, such as gas, electricity and telephone costs, there is tax relief available of up to £124.80 per tax year from HMRC, and our partner The Claims Guys Legal can help you with your claim.
Eligible taxpayers can claim tax relief based on the rate at which they pay tax, for the tax years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 based on relief of £6 per week.
- If you pay the 20% basic rate of tax you could be due £1.20 a week in tax relief (20% of £6 a week) towards the cost of their household bills, saving £62.40 for the year.
- If you are a higher rate taxpayer you would receive £2.40 a week (40% of £6 a week), saving £124.80 across the year.
Am I eligible to make a claim?
You can claim if you are required to work full time or part time at home, in fact, even if you have only had to work from home for one day you are eligible to make a claim.
You would not be eligible to claim working from home tax relief if your employer already pays you an allowance for working from home.
